Hair Extensions Home Care

Goldie Locks Shampoo & Conditioner

WASH

Before getting in the shower, make sure to brush your hair thoroughly starting from the ends and working your way up. Hold the attachment point with one hand while brushing with the other.

For at home washing, I recommend a Raindrops filtered shower head. Shampoo your hair with warm water and recommended shampoo; wash twice.   Please do not create unnecessary friction during this process. If you have 2 or more rows, make sure to gently wash in between your rows and lightly on top of your wefts. Use a scissor finger motion over your weft line. Do not aggressively rub the attachment point; the hair is more fragile when wet.

Rinse the shampoo really well and follow with conditioner throughout. Leave the conditioner on for 5-7 minutes, making sure to concentrate on the ends. Please make sure you allow enough time to complete this process thoroughly. You have extra hair now, this will take a little bit of extra time and care.

Goldie Locks Leave-in Conditioner

Dry

Gently squeeze the excess water out of your hair with your hands and a towel until your hair is no longer soaking. Do not aggressively rub the towel on your hair. *I love a microfiber hair wrap.

Gently detangle your hair with a recommended brush. Always have one hand at the installation point and carefully brush with the other hand. If you have more than one row, make sure to separate and brush in between. Thoroughly brush both your natural hair and extensions starting from the ends and working up the hair shaft. This process should be done with extra care as not to disturb the point of installation. Apply a recommended leave in conditioner and make sure to oil daily.

Next, air dry your hair as much as possible. The less heat, the better. When it is 80% dry, smoothly blow dry. Always keep the air flowing down the air shaft, not shaking your hair or blow dryer too much. DO NOT  blow dry your hair upside down. Take sections to ensure total drying before putting a hot tool on the hair.

REMEMBER YOUR HAIR MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE GOING TO BED.

Styling & More

Extensions can be styled just like normally with hot tools. The less heat you put on, the healthier your hair and extensions will be. You must brush your hair daily to maintain the integrity of your extension hair and your scalp.

Please only use the products recommended. Braid your hair before bed or secure snugly in a low pony or securely in a bun. Sleep on a silk pillowcase. Only put your hair in a high pony or low pony, not in the middle.

If you engage in water activities, prep your hair by spraying it with a mixture of clean water and conditioner in a spray bottle, comb, and braid your hair before entering a pool, ocean, or lake. Rinse your hair immediately afterwards and thoroughly dry your hair. Avoid sunscreens with avobenzone; it will discolor your extensions.

Extras

The secret to keeping your hair in the best shape possible is less heat. Wash as needed. Try doing a half wash in between your full washing days (section out the top, pull the rest in a low ponytail, bend over the kitchen sink or bathtub, and wash only the top section).

Use a dry shampoo. Enjoy ponytails and top knots.

Make sure you are drying the weft line thoroughly (the point of contact where the row is sewn on). Not getting the wefts dry can create mold and start to disintegrate the wefts.

Brush, brush, brush your hair!  Brush at least twice a day. This is really important to avoid matting. The hair is more fragile when wet, so be gentle when brushing. Avoid dragging the brush over the weft line. Too aggressive brushing can create wear and tear on the wefts which will lead to them needing to be replaced sooner than normal.

You want to take care of your hair like your own hair, but better! Handle them with kid gloves. ;) I promise you will love the lifestyle of extensions when you find your routine and rhythm. ALL of these tips will help keep your hair in excellent shape!
